THE POPPLETON ECO-CHURCH REFILL STALL – now stocks shampoo and hair conditioner, along with other fantastic Bio D products. All at incredibly low trade prices to keep you , your wallet and your world clean and healthy. The refill stall runs on a no profit basis, on the second Tuesday in August at Coffee On The Green or between times by phoning John on 07963784356
THE POPPLETON VILLAGE SHOW – has a long history, the first mention of a show is 1839. The current Village Show started in 2015 and the show this year takes place on the Green on 15th August. There are entry classes for flowers, fruit, vegetables, floral art, handicrafts, baking, first timers and children under thirteen. No entry fees and cash prizes to be won so get a programme from Coffee on the Green, the library, village pubs or Allerton Drive shops or visit the show website www.poppletonvillageshow.uk and have a go. Other events on the Green are the Spud and Beetroot in a Bucket weighing, the Shepherd Brass Band, a fun dog show, the classic car display and stalls. The show runs from 12.30 -16.00. Coffee on the Green is in operation all day.
HOLIDAYS AT HOME – A drop in for all ages over the summer. (Under 18’s should be accompanied by an adult). Food, refreshments, crafts, games, toys for little ones, beetle drive, sing along, quiz, tea, cake and bingo. All Saints Hall, 12-3.30 pm on Thursdays 30th July, 6th, 13th, 20th August. MARIAN’S STORY
Last year our boiler broke. No hot water! What a pain, boiling the kettle each time I needed hot water or had to use cold water to wash at the sink or shower to get clean. Then we had last year’s hose pipe ban. Another pain, having to use the rainbutt to water the garden, enduring endless trips up and down with the watering can. What out-cry at the pollution in our rivers or at the inconvenience of a blocked toilet or the lack of public conveniences. And what to do when the washing machine breaks? Another inconvenience.
Surely clean water, decent toilets and the ability to keep clean are something we are all entitled to? My experiences are inconvenient at the worst but enough to make me pause and think. I take clean water for granted, and ease of access to it. I do not have to trek a long way to collect dirty water in order to stay hydrated. But many do. We all need clean water. Along with decent toilets and good hygiene, it’s the foundation for good health, dignity, and a life full of opportunity.
But right now, millions of people are still living without these basic necessities.
For this reason I am putting on my running trainers once again to take part in the Great North Run on 13th September. Please support and sponsor me. Any sponsorship will be gratefully received. You may have heard I currently have a foot injury. However I am still hopeful, following a discussion with the hospital, that I will be able to take part in the run this September. It may end up being a walk run but my aim is still to compete and raise valuable donations. No personal bests this year though!
